roar-y

we went to see the broadway version of "the lion king" last night. we were one row from the back of the theater, but it was still an overwhelming performance, start to finish.

the show began with the amazing puppets taking over the stage and even the theater itself. a giant elephant ambled up the aisle, giraffes tottered back and forth, cheetahs slinked around, birds fluttered overhead all while the backdrop bled from dark pre-dawn hues to a stunning, golden-orange sunrise with fog rolling across the jungle floor.

the kids sitting all over the theater were completely and utterly hooked from there on. and the adults, too.

the songs were great, minus that overly sappy "can you feel the love tonight," which just screams elton john. indeed, it's his writing, though some other guy's lyrics. it's just too schmaltzy to stomach.

anyhow, minus that one complaint, the whole show was tremendous.

whether you have a kid or happen to be a kid at heart yourself, we highly recommend it.
